NETS Victoria has announced the appointment of Mardi Nowak as Director.


Ms Nowak who trained as an artist has worked as a curator and gallery manager for more than 16 years in the public gallery and local government sector most recently at the Town Hall Gallery, Hawthorn. Over the past decade she has developed over 100 exhibitions and programs, working closely with gallery staff, artists and organisations on collection building, artist-in-residence programs and overseeing public art commissions.

She brings a wealth of management and curatorial experience to the role. We’re looking forward to working with Mardi to deliver our current slate of ambitious and stimulating exhibitions and shape the program going forward.”

Mardi Nowak: “I’m really looking forward to engaging with metropolitan and regional audiences. In many respects it’s a homecoming; I started my arts career at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery. “I’m passionate about the contemporary visual arts and crafts and combining traditional and contemporary practices and thinking about ways to bring about meaningful engagement with art.”

While at Town Hall Gallery visitation to the museum increased threefold. NETS Victoria currently has five exhibitions touring across three states including Jacqui Stockdale: Drawing the Labyrinth, Slipstitch, Wominjeka: A New Beginning, Michelle Nikou: a e i o u and Erewhon. A further four new exhibitions are in development including Play On: The Art of Sport, Real Life Fantasies, a Raquel Ormella survey and Seeing Voices. They span collaborations with the Ian Potter Museum of Art, the University of Melbourne, Westspace, Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) and Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA). National Exhibitions Touring Support (NETS) Victoria is the peak body for touring visual culture in the state of Victoria.

NETS Victoria collaborates with art galleries, cultural institutions, artists and curators to co-create and co-present outstanding exhibitions and projects that are supported by engaging high quality publications and public and learning programs, which promote increased audience participation and educational engagement with contemporary art across regional Victoria.
